Vision of Escaflowne Trio

I got asked a long while back if I could do Anime or Manga type art and I nearly laughed myself silly- see I was born in '85 which means I grew up watching Anime- we all did... we just didn't all know it. My favorite show pre-kindergarden was called 'Maple Town' that was Anime XD then there were tons of other shows of course and Sailor Moon in the mornings before school by 5th-6th grade? Had me hooked. I was huge into it for a long, long time. My dad would go overseas and come back with anything anime related so I even have some untranslated books, manga, magazines and yes, coloring books from back then.

By the time I was a Freshman I was at my peak this gem came over on Fox (*shutter* WHY DID THEY DO THAT TO YOU ESCAFLOWNE!?) but I still liked it. So when a friend asked if I COULD draw this I thought "huh- might be fun" I was at my Mum's when I got asked and with my cell battery running low I ran downstairs and burrowed thru my 'Juli's Bin Of Stuff she's not selling, giving away or donating this is her stuff and if you touch she will set you on fire' (no really... it says that) and I dug until I found a VHS cover with this image... and Escaflowne on it but if I'm not drawing Duo Maxwell's Gundam what makes you think I'm gonna draw Mecha now?

So I sat down at my old desk from junior high/ High School (it was made from doors... no really... doors and a jigsaw... my uncle gets bored and does stuff like that no screws in the damn thing) and grabbed my "going to do laundry keep me from being board" bag found some clean paper and set to work... I should have brought the VHS back with me but I didn't so once it was penciled I just looked up images for the colors and shadow lines

Done on X-Press It Blending Card with BIC Mechanical Pencil, Copic SP Multi-Liners (black) and Copic Multi Liners (sepia) with Copic Sketch for color... total time... over 40 hours... mostly for due to practicing the blends to make sure they were right. I really wish I had kept the images up longer and I wouldn't have messed up the eyes, noses, teeth, sword etc but still really happy with it.
