Taking Up The Cowl

Everyone knows I'm a massive DCAU fangirl just one look at the art I draw for fun and that's all you need. I have a few Terry McGinnis pieces but none I was really UBER Proud of due to inking mistakes or hand flubs so I wanted to do a new Terry. The last one I had of him as Batman (fyi: Batman Beyond= AWESOME been a fan since the show's debut) was just him on a piece of white paper that I liked but I didn't LOVE.

I was board outta my skull a few weeks back and found some blank paper and was just re-watching a few episodes when I remembered a scene- I couldn't remember where of Terry standing on this gurder and pulling on the mask. I thought 'ZOMG THAT IS SO MUCH WIN I WONDER IF I CAN TRY' well google image search was no help because I couldn't remember the episode. So I just went with it.

Now I've said before I'M HORRIBLE with backgrounds I nearly failed a midterm because I missed the classes that delt with doing buildings and animated buildings ESPECIALLY in the DCAU/Batman Beyond are all just straight up ruler work... btu I COULDN'T GET IT. My girlfriend was over and after some very nice asking and a couple of cheek smooches for sucking up she was kind enough to take my right angle and do the buildings for me! I pulled up a bunch of images of Neo-Gotham and she went to work.

It was while I was looking at these images of Gotham I jumpped up ran to my DVD tower and pulled out "Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker" going 'If this isn't what I've been looking for revoke my nerd card'

TAAAHDAAAH last 5 seconds was that scene. Now because my TV can't pause without the pixles burning out I put it on my cracktop (baaaad old laptop but hey it gives me internet right?!) and try to pause it so I can fix his hands/ see where shadows are supposed to be. Nope. it won't let me go frame by frame so I find one frame that's with the mask almost totally on but who cares!?!?!!??!!? FOUND IT fixed the hands and taaadaaah TERRY!

While looking up images of Gotham's sky line I found that it was never just a FLAT background there was always this cool semi effect of clouds depending on the version of the DCAU (Timm-Dini era) Gotham you saw depended on what color the sky/clouds were. This was a new effect I was trying and OMG so happy with hpw it came out.

Also while I was first penciling this I don't even look up my GF is reading some very heavy elaborate smarty pants novel and I say "y'know this is the closest I'll ever come to cheating on you... working on these lips for 20 minuets" without a pause "why? ya drawing Terry McGinnis?" XD she knows me.

Done on X-Press It Blending Card with BIC Mechanical Pencil under Copic SP Multi-Liners (black) and Copic Multi-Liners (sepia I want to get grey too!) with Copic Sketch Markers for color- a right angle, a ruler and my lovely ladies left hand. The stripes are an unintentional watermark aka: I thinks my scanner is dying.

I spent a lot of time on this ESPECIALLY with my injury and I have been finding a lot of my art on Tumblr and people not saying where they got it so please just hyperlink back to my gallery? It's all I ask. I'm trying to be 100% accurate in where I site my sources so by giving me credit and the link to the original you allow me to cover my bum by saying 'This was from memory for the most part from Batman Beyond Return of the Joker because my PC stinks and can't do frame by frame, screen cap or anything cool because it's missing half it's buttons LOL)
